“(Discussing indigenous communities from Xingu National Park, Brazil) So event based time consists of time intervals that are not measured but indexes to happenings. These happenings are events that work all year such as the water level of the river, the Sun, the Sun is so important because the position of the Sun, it’s sunlight - the absence of the light…...

…….So the moon is very important for all these communities, the moon is a beam that they incorporate into their cultural practice and their beliefs. The moon can bring good fortune, the moon can make good health, good harvest but the moon as well indexes the menstrual cycle that measures the periods of the women in the communities. For example when you are a young girl and you have your first period, you have your first day bleeding, the first thing you do is look up at the sky and from that moment on, that shape will be your index of your menstrual cycle for the rest of your life.”
